Hillcrest / Balboa Park

(92103, 92102)

Just up the hill from Mission Valley and a stones-throw from downtown is Hillcrest. This area of San Diego has a number of excellent restaurants, cafes, art galleries, bookshops, boutiques and furniture stores. Hillcrest is also known for its cinematic screenings, and the mid-summer’s annual Lesbian and Gay Parade.

The most popular shopping and dining hotspots in Hillcrest are concentrated in “The Village” area located by Washington and Fifth Avenue. But just outside The Village, quaint shops and boutiques can be discovered throughout the neighborhood.

For visitors, the most interesting attraction in the Hillcrest area is 1200-acre Balboa Park. This park is famous for its many museums, playgrounds, indoor and outdoor theaters, and of course, the renowned San Diego Zoo.

Regarding real estate, Hillcrest remains one of San Diego’s best values for professionals and working-class residents alike. The old craftsman-style homes and their landscapes have been well-maintained, and their pride in ownership is apparent.
